Flat pricing vs. commission: the actual math

"It's just a small percentage" is how every commission-based bio-link tool pitches its cut. It's worth actually running the numbers, because the crossover point comes faster than the pitch implies.

The comparison

zeroatom's Creator+ plan is a flat $12/month, with no fee on anything you sell through your page. Commission tools like Linktree and Beacons take 9 to 12% of sales on their free and starter plans.

Monthly sales through your page10% commissionzeroatom flat fee
$60$6$12
$120$12$12
$300$30$12
$1,200$120$12

The crossover is around $120 in monthly sales. Past that, a percentage fee costs more than the flat plan, and the gap only widens as sales grow. For a coach selling one $60 cohort seat a week, that crossover isn't a hypothetical; it's month one.

Why this matters more for coaches and consultants

A creator selling a handful of digital products absorbs the commission as a rounding error. A coach or consultant running their bookings and one paid offer through their bio link is usually well past the crossover point before they've noticed. The commission is quietly the largest line item in what they pay to be discoverable.

The trade-off, honestly

A flat fee means you pay $12 even in a slow month with zero sales, while a percentage fee scales down with you. That's a real trade-off, not a trick. What we don't think is fair is charging a rising percentage of your best months while a competitor's dashboard stays exactly the same size. If your page is actually working, you shouldn't be the one paying for it to keep working.
